Dear Professor Smith,
I hope this letter finds you well. Firstly, let me express my sincere gratitude for selecting me as your teaching assistance. I am deeply honored by your gesture.
However, I do regret to inform you that I am unable to take up the position. As you may know, I am already holding the position of Chairman of the Student Council. At the same time, I am also the Chairman of the English Society. Being Chairman of two very important associations, I have various tasks at hand on a daily basis. I have to make plans for the development and growth of these two societies. As these societies affect a large number of students, I have to be very careful with the planning. I also have to attend various meetings with council and society members to ensure that all the feedback from students are heard. We often sit down and discuss on these matters which take up a lot of time and effort.
As such, I have little time for other duties and posts. Therefore, I have little choice but to turn down your offer. In replacement, I would like to recommend my classmate Li Ming as your teaching assistant. Like myself, Li Ming is highly fluent in the English language and will not have any communication issues. He is also diligent and studious, hardworking and highly responsible. He sets good examples to peers and is friendly and helpful to others.
